What to choose?
The benefits of steel planters compared to other materials
When it comes to choosing planters, there are many different materials to choose from, such as wood, plastic, concrete, corten steel, and galvanized steel. While each material has its advantages and disadvantages, steel planters are a popular choice among many gardeners and homeowners. Here are some of the benefits of choosing steel planters over other materials:
Keep your steel planter box beautiful and functional for years to come.
Follow these simple steps
Durability
Steel planters are known for their durability and strength. They can withstand the elements and are less likely to break down over time than some other materials like wood or plastic. Therefore, steel planters are a good choice if you want a planter that will last for many years to come.
Easy maintenance
Steel planters are easy to maintain and clean. They are resistant to moisture and pests, making them less likely to attract pests or rot over time. Cleaning a steel planter is also easy and only requires a cloth and some water to remove any dirt and dust.
Stylish design
Steel planters have a modern and elegant design that fits well with many different types of decor and outdoor spaces. They come in various sizes and colors and can be customized to meet your specific needs and desires.
Resource efficient
Steel planters are a durable and resource-efficient choice as they can be recycled and reused at the end of their lifetime. Their robustness ensures they can withstand the elements for many years, reducing the need for frequent replacements and saving resources in the long run.
Growing vegetables
You can grow and plant all kinds of vegetables and plants in our planters. Galvanized steel and corten steel are generally not harmful to plants as it is a corrosion-resistant material that does not release harmful chemicals or metals. However, if in doubt, we recommend lining the box with a plastic sheet, polystyrene, insulation mat or similar. This will also isolate the soil from the sides of the box and extend its lifespan.
How to clean and maintain your planters.
Steel planters are a great way to add style and functionality to any garden or outdoor space. Steel planters are known for their durability and resistance to weather and pests. However, to maintain their appearance and functionality, they may need a little maintenance in the form of cleaning and soil replacement.
Cleaning
Steel planters are resistant to weather and pests, but they can still attract dirt, dust and stains over time. You can clean your galvanized steel planters with a soft brush and mild soapy water. Avoid using harsh detergents or scouring powders as these can scratch or damage the surface of your steel planter.
Dirt
There may be impressions on the galvanized surface or on the corten steel from birds, dogs or marks from fertilizer - if organic fertilizer is not used. If soil, sand and dirt have settled on the surface of the galvanized planter boxes, it may be a good idea to clean the dirty plates, as there is a greater risk of white rust in dirty areas.
Control
Check drainage holes (when purchasing a bottom plate) and replace soil: Make sure to keep the drainage holes in the bottom of your steel planter box free of dirt and clogging. This will help ensure that excess water can drain from the box and your plants will thrive better. The soil will become more and more compacted if left for several years, it's a good idea to “lift”/turn the soil slightly and make sure to add soil to completely cover the crossbars.
Insulation
Insulation mats or polystyrene is a brilliant solution when you want to reduce evaporation from your bed while protecting your plants from direct heat. It can also help protect your delicate plants from freezing weather. If you plant in a planter box, you can line it with polystyrene as it insulates against both high and low temperatures and protects the roots of the plants. Another advantage of using polystyrene is that it protects the planter from the inside against soil acidity.
Steel planters are not only a stylish and durable solution for the garden, but also a far more practical choice compared to wooden planters. Where wood can rot, warp and require ongoing treatment to withstand the elements, steel planters are designed to last for years without the same need for maintenance. With an annual cleaning and a little attention, steel planters can maintain their quality and elegance season after season.
