The steel is delivered with a small oil film and is thus not rusted on delivery. We therefore recommend a wash with lukewarm soapy water after installation to remove the oil film. Within a few weeks, depending on rainfall, the rust process will begin. If you are impatient, the process can be accelerated by a single wash followed by a salt water spray.
The final patination takes several years, during which the rust layer develops and forms a protective film on the surface. The color will go from completely orange to slightly darker over time.
A beautiful development.
When placing on tiles or wood, the surface must be protected against rust markings for the first time, as the rust in rain will drip onto the surface. This decreases after a few months, but we always recommend paying attention. Corten steel lasts up to 8 times longer than ordinary steel.
The climate corten steel used in plays a significant role in durability. In optimal conditions, corten steel in gardens will last over 50 years, while a saline air will negatively affect longevity.
